Stranded All Alone on Your Own Private Island ... in Minnesota?
Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes—some big, some small. And while it's far from the country's coasts, it's a desirable destination for buyers who love water.
If you're inclined to swim into all things aquatic, say hello to this home just outside Minneapolis in Prior Lake, MN. And when we say "in Prior Lake," we literally mean it.
On the market for $450,000, the home "kind of feels like you're floating from the inside of the cabin; you can see water all around you," says listing agent Paul Bothof.
That’s because it's located on a private island in the middle of Prior Lake. This three-bedroom, one-bathroom home in the Twin Cities suburbs is surrounded by water. The island has a sandy beach which the former owners used for more than a few waterside get-togethers.
"They were known to have a good time," Bothof says of the previous owners. "They had a big, big barge that would go around the lake called the Kabooze. They'd drive around and have music playing and have big parties on this island."
Built in the mid-'80s, the property is the dictionary definition of a summer home. You won't be visiting this place during the icy winter months.
One of the home's previous owners, a couple, traveled to and from the property by hovercraft. "They had two hovercraft," Bothof recalls. "For spring, when the ice isn't very thick, and the fall, when the ice is just coming in. You can't drive a boat or walk to it. So they used the hovercraft, which I thought was pretty cool."
The island is adjacent to another island, which has a dozen summer homes like this one. So just because this home sits all alone doesn’t mean it's isolated.
It’s just a short boat ride to town. And once you reach the mainland, you're only 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis.
